Vera Songwe is the Country Director for Senegal, Cape Verde, The Gambia, Guinea Bissau, and Mauritania, based in Dakar, Senegal.
Songwe is a nonresident senior fellow with the Africa Growth Initiative and lead economist at the World Bank.
She was the adviser to managing director Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who oversaw the World Bank Operations in the Africa, Europe and Central Asia and South Asia regions, as well as human resources.
A Cameroonian national, Songwe joined the Bank in 1998 as a young professional in the East Asia and Pacific Region.
She has worked on several countries and regions including Cambodia, Morocco, Tunisia, Malaysia, Mongolia, and the Philippines.
