Madiba – heritage icon that promotes social cohesion

Advocate Sonwabile Mancotywa, CEO of the National Heritage Council (NHC) applauds the public, private and non-profit organisations and South African citizens on their respective International Mandela Day initiatives in honour of Madiba.

The global icon spent 27 years of his life in prison during the liberation struggle and his efforts together with the other cadres to promote peace and reconciliation earned himself the global respect and the Nobel Peace prize. Thus he is one of the key figures that have played a remarkable role in the liberation struggle of this country and his rich legacy is celebrated by international communities.

“South Africans never cease to amaze when it comes to elements of unity and reconciliation, which is what Madiba always wished for and will be remembered for,” says Sonwabile Mancotywa.

“67 minutes” of doing good is what was asked, instead the national and international community surpassed the requirement,” adds Mancotywa.

South Africans are urged to continue celebrating our country’s heritage and changing the world for better everyday.
