Johannesburg Stock Exchange to host second women empowerment conference

As part of efforts to improve gender representation amongst investors, as well as to empower, educate and support women who are keen to achieve financial freedom through investing on the stock market, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) is hosting an investment conference on 10 August 2019.

Dubbed #JSESheInvests, this annual conference is hosted in partnership with Easy Equities, a local low-cost investment brokerage platform, and True Love magazine and will be attended by women from different income levels at the JSE Offices in Sandton.

“Under the theme: Let’s Invest in Each Other, we want to create a platform for women to take charge of their lives and make bold decisions. Women need to understand that they do not have to earn a large sum of money before they start investing, they can start small with what they currently have,” says Zanele Morrison, Director of Marketing and Corporate Affairs at the JSE.

The #JSESheInvests conference is envisioned to see women from all walks of life progress financially through savvy investments and economic prosperity. The aim is to help women actualise the concept of investing in each other, by bringing female leaders together to share valuable insights and knowledge.

“It will be a gathering of powerful and motivational women under one roof to share their successes and challenges. The idea is to inspire women, young and old, to start their journey to financial freedom,” she says.

Keynote speakers at the event will include:

  • Mapalo Makhu, an award-winning Personal Finance Coach, Speaker, the founder of Woman & Finance – a platform that educates and inspires women to take charge of their finances and recently, a (money) columnist for City Press.
  • Rapelang Rabana, a computer scientist, internationally recognised technology entrepreneur and a keynote speaker. She is currently the Rekindle Learning Founder and Chair.
  • Anthea Gardner, the Managing Partner at Cartesian Capital, a South African asset management business.

“Topics to be covered during the conference range from learning how to invest in your kids, how women can invest in each other and how to make your money work for you. We are going to tackle investment in a unique way in order to make it accessible, easy to understand and fun. We will also have a host of lifestyle partners such as Camelot Spa and Hi-Tec SA to make sure we balance learning with some fun and spoils!” concludes Morrison.
