James Mwangi, the CEO of Equity Bank has won the world’s most coveted awards in the business world among them being the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year Award and 2013 Forbes Person of the Year.
Mwangi is the Managing Director and Chief Executive of Equity Bank since 2004.
Mwangi holds four Honorary doctorate degrees in recognition of his contributions to the Kenyan society.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Mwangi has been honoured twice with Presidential national awards. He was vested the First Class Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) national decoration, the highest presidential award to a civilian, for outstanding contribution in economic development.
Mwangi is currently the Chairman of Kenya’s Vision 2030 Delivery Board charged with the responsibility of ensuring Kenya becomes a middle income country with global high standards of living by the year 2030.
Mwangi serves on several international bodies as an advisor, is a Board member of the Africa Leadership Academy in South Africa, the Global Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition among others and is the Chancellor Meru University College of Science and Technology.
Mwangi, originally from Kenya, has wide experience in the banking industry and inclusive finance.
Mwangi won the inaugural 2011 African Leadership Award in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
