Irene Ochem is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Africa Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF), a pan-African women’s economic empowerment organisation and business network that promotes and supports female innovation, technology and entrepreneurship across Africa.
Ochem is an entrepreneur and an international development specialist with more than 25 years international management experience in Europe and Africa.
She spent many years working for international organisations including the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and as an international consultant for the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).
For two years, she worked for the University of Cape Town as research administration manager.
Ochem holds Bachelors and post-graduate Degrees from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and the University of Trieste and an MBA in international management from the University of London.
She also holds postgraduate qualifications in project management, gender and trade-related issues. She speaks four languages and writes, speaks and participates widely in international meetings on women and gender.
