Impala Platinum Holdings Limited has released a production update for the quarter ended 30 September 2013.
The company reports gross platinum production to have decreased by 17% to 376 000 ounces for this quarter when compared to the corresponding period of 2012.
The company attributes this decrease to the lower Impala Refining Service receipts during the period.
Throughput at the company’s Impala Refining Services plant dropped by 31% from the previous corresponding period due to deliveries from a recycling customer having stopped during the period, as well as a build-up in pipeline stocks at the refineries. Total throughput amounted to only 181 000 ounces.
The company reported an increase in production at its Zimplat operations in Zimbabwe and improved output at the company’s Impala and Marula operations in South Africa. However, these improvements were more than offset by the Impala Refining Services drop in throughput.
