Global Immersion for Gordon Institute of Business Science MBA students

The University of Pretoria Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) in South Africa, in partnership with Howard University in the US and the Central University of Finance and Economics in China will be participating in the Global Trilateral MBA (GTMBA) programme, an educational and experiential certificate programme designed to provide students with international consulting experiences.

MBA students from each institution have been selected to participate in this initiative and will be required to work on consulting projects in each country.

The cross-cultural teams will work remotely and have face-to-face interactions during a study block in South Africa from the 12 to 15 March 2016, a study block in China in June and a concluding block in the US in October 2016.

Students will gain hands-on global consulting experience and build their capability to work in diverse teams across multiple time zones.

For the South African leg of the programme, students are currently working on consulting projects for four small enterprises which have unique challenges that the teams need to assist with.

The key focus areas for the South African block are intercultural management and entrepreneurship with specific focus on business models at the base of the pyramid, strategy and innovation.

GIBS is looking forward to hosting the first block, which promises to immerse the students into the local context through a variety of experiential learning activities.

Tanya van Lill, GIBS Director of Academic Programmes says she was confident this programme would have significant impact on participants.

“The programme is the first collaboration of its kind for GIBS.

It will give students authentic first-hand experience of working with multi-cultural teams as well as the opportunity to consult to various businesses in different markets,” she says.
