GKD South Africa now 51% black owned

In October 2016 the GKD group South Africa, concluded a BBBEE deal through one of its subsidiaries, GKD Manufacturing and Services (GKD Manufacturing).

This makes them one of the only, Original Equipment Manufacturers, of screening media in South Africa, with a Level 2 BBBEEE rating. Optima Works, a 100% black owned company, acquired 51% ownership in GKD Manufacturing in October of 2015.

“GKD being a family business, the shareholders wanted an active partner that could be involved in the running of the business, who has a long term view, and not a silent shareholder,” says Roy van Blerk, GKD Group Chief Executive Officer.

The GKD Group South Africa is comprised of GKD Buismet, a German owned family business – GKD Mining and Industrial Services, as well as GKD Manufacturing.

The screening media specialist, GKD Manufacturing, is a growing and significant player in the screening media business, boasting a client base of 150+ mines across South Africa including Kumba Iron Ore’s Sishen mine.

GKD Manufacturing takes an interdisciplinary approach to providing long-term solutions and prides itself with a commitment to service, quality, and technological leadership.

“Our strength lies in manufacturing, engineering and design, as well as a technical, solution-based approach to sales, through qualified and experienced personnel in the field of metallurgy and process engineering,” explains Letsapa Letsapa, GKD South Africa Managing Director.

“Our strategy is to build a business that delivers value to our clients through superior, up to date products, that improve process efficiency and that lower total cost of ownership for the processing plants we supply. Cost cutting and cost efficiency are imperative in the current climate. These two key performance indicators are vital to our strategy due to their fundamental impact on our client’s bottom line,” says Letsapa.

“To this effect, GKD Manufacturing offers its client’s access to Maintenance X, an innovative web-based tool that allows monitoring of panel usage and root cause analysis for screen failures. This easy-to-use technology identifies opportunities to improve performance, avoid costly breakdowns, and improve total cost of ownership,” concludes Letsapa.

This deal will enable all GKD group South Africa procurement partners to see 125% of their spend claimed towards BBBEE as a result of the level 2 BBBEE status that GKD Manufacturing now carries.
