Funke Opeke is an experienced telecommunications executive who founded Main Street Technologies and is the CEO of MainOne.
Main Street is a holding company launched to build and operate the Main One submarine cable system linking countries in West and Central Africa with each other and connecting in Europe with other existing cable systems linking the Americas and Asia. Main Street Technologies has established the Main One Cable company to own and operate the system which is under contract and scheduled for deployment into service in May 2010.
Opeke returned to Nigeria in 2005 after a 20 year career in the US telecommunications industry to serve as Chief Technical Officer, MTN Nigeria. She subsequently advised Transcorp on the privatization of NITEL, and served briefly as Chief Operating Officer of NITEL. Prior to her return to Nigeria, Opeke was Executive Director, Performance Assurance with the Wholesale Division of Verizon Communications, New York.
Opeke obtained her Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife in 1981 and a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, New York in May 1984.
Opeke is a member of the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, US and the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
Opeke is a dual citizen of the United States and Nigeria.
