Canyon Coal advocates for female participation in mining industry

Canyon Coal, a coal exploration and mining company with operations and projects in Mpumalanga and Gauteng provinces, collaborated with a community organisation called When We Women Rise (WWWR) to inspire young women to pursue a mining career.

Canyon Coal’s Phalanndwa Colliery hosted the top ten performing female students from the Victor Khanye Local Municipality.

The mine visit was arranged to inform and expose these students to the mining industry through physical interaction with the employees, machinery and the engineering processes involved.

The company hopes that the students acquire sufficient knowledge about the academic mining opportunities such as the bursaries, internships and learnerships offered to give them a platform for success.

Nthabiseng Ocia Mueti, Canyon Coal Environmental and SLP officer engaged with the students in an open discussion pertaining their career choices and her experience in the mining field.

“Mining companies have the resources needed to influence and give students the opportunities for success by exposing them to the mining industries to make informed decisions and avail themselves to the opportunities offered,” says Mueti.
