Brian Herlihy is the Founder of Black Rhino Group.
Herlihy is the Founder and former President of SEACOM, a US$ 600 million undersea fibre optic cable to address the greatest missing link in the communications ecosystem that had a profound impact on the communications market in Africa, increasing Internet supply by 5000% in less than two years in affected countries and acting as the catalyst for follow on investment into national fibre networks, fibre to the towers and metro fibre rings in excess of US$ 6 billion in the countries that SEACOM serviced.
SEACOM’s official launch in July 2009, marked the beginning of positive changes in numerous African countries via the spread of access to wholesale broadband Internet. Over 17,000km of undersea fibre optic cable was laid, connecting Africa to the rest of the world via India and Europe.
Low-cost, high-quality Internet access is critical to feeding African nations with the information and communications infrastructure they need to grow prosperous, connected and competitive economies.
Herlihy has a long track record working on projects that have a direct impact on improving market efficiencies and worker productivity.
Herlihy named as one of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 192 Young Global Leaders for 2012.
