The Black Business Council (BBC) notes the release of the long-awaited Mining Charter draft by the Minister of Mineral Resources, Gwede Mantashe.

“The council will consult with its members before commenting on the document. Furthermore a highly experienced team has been assembled by BBC to look at the charter and provide input in order to meet the deadline as set by the Minister,” said Kganki Matabane, BBC Chief Executive Officer.

“As a matter of principle, the BBC would like to state that any charter must ensure that black people play a meaningful role in the mainstream economy.”

“The BBC would also like to remind those who are against transformation that the 26% ownership was just a minimum as the objective is to have ownership of the economy reflecting the demographic of South Africa,” concludes Matabane.
