The Black Business Council (BBC) is particularly impressed with the recent decision by Anglo American PLC to diversify their executive team through the appointment of veteran Executive, Nolitha Fakude and Kumba Iron Ore Chief Executive Officer, Themba Mkhwanazi.
The appointments will go a long way in bringing the much-needed gender equality in the executive decision-making positions in business.
“The BBC welcomes this announcement and wishes Anglo American well as they continue to improve their competitive position through these additions. The calibre of men and women who have been given these positions of serious responsibility are of impeccable background and experience,” says Sandile Zungu, Black Business Council President.
Fakude is scheduled to step down from her non-executive Director position on the board by the end of August and start her new position as chair on 01 September 2019.
The BBC also applauds the appointment of top businesswomen Nonkululeko Nyembezi-Heita and Hixonia Nyasulu who will also be joining the group as non-executive Directors.
“The BBC has long called for diversity in all sectors of the economy to ensure the majority of the country’s citizens play a meaningful role in the mainstream economy” concludes Zungu.
