Ashburton Investments appoints new Chief Investment Officer


Ashburton Investments, the asset management arm of the FirstRand group, announced today that Nkareng Mpobane has been appointed as new Chief Investment Officer of long only Fund Management.

This role will cover the entire long only fund range including South Africa, Jersey and Luxembourg.

Mpobane takes up the role from Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Fund Management.

Nkareng joined Ashburton Investments in 2012 and has been instrumental in the success of the fund management business.

She has over 13 years of experience in the investment industry and has been integrally involved in both the local and offshore investment processes.

Prior to joining Ashburton Investments, Nkareng worked at RMB Private Bank Portfolio Management for six years, managing private clients, institutional clients and trust portfolios.

She takes over the role from Paolo Senatore who after over twenty years with the FirstRand Group, will pursue other interests in investing outside the group.

In the next few weeks, Ashburton Investments will also be appointing a Chief Investment Office of Private Markets. This role will include responsibility for the unlisted asset classes such as private debt, mezzanine finance, private equity and direct property.

The splitting of role of Chief Investment Officer into two different and distinct areas will better enable the scaling and focus of Ashburton Investments business.

Mphahlele is responsible for creating infrastructure performance reports through HP Ops Analytics, monitoring payments via Splunk and in-house built-in tool and disaster recovery simulation and testing. At Nashua Mobile, he was responsible for application development and enhancing the web sites At South West Gauteng College, he was the IT Technician and Network Administrator. During his tenure at Double Digit Media, he was he focused on application and web site development for new and existing clients Mphahlele contributes as a Content Manager for BizNis Africa.
