Tlali Taoana is a finance and economics graduate who couldn’t resist the lure of the brands and advertising world after dabbling in a short career as an asset manager.
Taoana has been in his career for over nine years.
Taoana is currently the Group Strategic Planning Director at MetropolitanRepublic.
Taoana was part of the inaugural SA alumni graduates from the renowned WPP/Kantar Fellowship Programme.
Taoana has worked for Added Value Group CT and JHB, Kagiso Media and Broadcasting, TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris, Interbrand Africa and The Jupiter Drawing Room.
Taoana’s career has focused extensively on delivering global brand solutions to clients throughout Africa.
In South Africa, Taoana’s work extends to creating, managing and implementing brand value for well-loved homegrown brands, multinational companies and parastatals.
Coming from a strong brand development and research background at Added Value Group, Taoana subsequently moved into the role of strategic planner for TBWA/Hunt/Lascaris, delivering communication strategies and solutions for Standard Bank, IMC, Tiger Brands, Soviet Jeans and Neotel.
Taoana was responsible for a very succesful 10 country brand migration strategy for Access Bank Group.
At The Jupiter Drawing Room, Taoana and his team were responsible for the brand communication strategy overhaul for Absa Group and personally led the re-positioning for Absa Capital and Wealth and the cultural alignment with Barclays Capital over a period of six months, which included qualitative and quantitative research, localising global positioning, internal engagement, culture values workshops, brand strategy and design, advertising and Public Relations and Digital strategy.
At MetropolitanRepublic his role is to create cultural movements and assets for brands, driving creative strategies that solve business challenges and inspiring work.
