South African Institute for Black Property Practitioners Indaba comes to Johannesburg


The countdown to the 2017 South African Institute for Black Property Practitioners (SAIBPP) Annual Convention and Property Indaba has begun.

The programme promises to provide a lively platform for riveting and open discussions to explore contentious issues around the current state of the property industry in South Africa.

The convention, which takes place from 2 to 3 August 2017, will launch with a full day development site tour of Johannesburg commencing at Kgoro Central on 2 August 2017.

The second day of the 2017 SAIBPP Annual Convention and Property Indaba, which will be held at the Houghton Golf Club in Johannesburg on 3 August 2017, will feature a speaker line-up comprising key role players representing both private and public sector.

These include Duma Gqubule, KIO Advisory Services Founder who will be putting on his Analyst and Economist hat to unpack research on Defining Radical economic transformation in the property sector.

The day will also see the Minister of Public Works Nkosinathi Nhleko as a guest speaker; as well as the Minister of Rural Development and Land Affairs Gugile Nkwinti speaking on Rural development and land reform.

Real Estate Practitioner Mashilo Pitjeng will be presenting an Analysis of the state of transformation and the new codes, while Badisa Matshego, Group Executive: Infrastructure Asset Management of Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) will expose delegates to the State Owned Enterprises various development opportunities.

“The convention will focus on addressing the current economic growth challenges, and the role that the industry can play in stimulating and driving development,” says Vuyiswa Mutshekwane, SAIBPP Chief Executive Officer. 

Research findings on What is next in the SA commercial property market will be presented by the University of Cape Town’s Professor Viruly; as well as the ‘Land Strategy’ plan for Johannesburg by Helen Botes, Chief Executive Officer of the City of Joburg Property Company.

Attendees can look forward to two robust panel discussions – the first moderated by Dineo Molomo on Enterprise and Skills Development: Impact of the new codes, key shifts and impact on the industry followed by Real Estate as a catalyst of inclusive economic growth with Iman Rappetti as moderater.

“SAIBPP is taking a more forwardthinking role in interrogating existing and developing policies that have not been working in both private and public sector, to find solutions and collaborative efforts that will work towards actively transforming the current dynamics of the property industry in South Africa. We are honoured that Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will be making a keynote address at our convention,” says Mutshekwane.

The proceedings of the convention will close with a gala dinner award ceremony to honour industry players that are leading transformation in the property sector.
