Jubril Adewale Tinubu, Oando Plc Group CEO

Jubril Adewale Tinubu is the Group Chief Executive of Oando PLC, Africa’s leading indigenous energy solutions provider listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, and the first African company to have a cross-border inward listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

Wale began his career in 1992 as an attorney, specializing in corporate and petroleum law assignments. In 1994, he co-founded Ocean and Oil Group and guided its strategic development, leading to the acquisition of Unipetrol during the Federal Government of Nigeria’s privatization exercise in 2000.

In 2002, he led the largest ever acquisition of a quoted Nigerian company, with the acquisition of Agip by Unipetrol through an international bid conducted by Agip Petroli International B.V.

He is widely recognised for his role in the successful transformation of Oando from a petroleum marketing company to an integrated energy group, adding international supply and trading, gas and power, energy services and exploration and production to its offering.

Today, Oando PLC has investments across the energy value chain, and its subsidiaries are market leaders in their respective sectors.

In June 2015, Wale was named ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ West Africa by Ernst & Young on the basis of his contributions to the development of the African Oil and Gas industry. His entrepreneurial achievements also led to his induction into Ernst & Young’s World Entrepreneur of the Year Academy.

In 2014, under his leadership Oando PLC successfully concluded the US$1.5 billion acquisition of ConocoPhillips Nigeria business, a first for a Nigerian indigenous company transforming the company into the country’s largest indigenous oil and gas producer with an estimated output of 55,000 boepd.

In 2011, he was awarded the ‘African Business Leader of the Year’ by Africa Investor and in 2007, he was named a Global Young Leader by the World Economic Forum, Geneva, in recognition of his achievements as one of the leading executives under 41.

Mr. Tinubu is a member of the Institute of Directors of Nigeria, the Nigerian Bar Association and sits on the board of several blue-chip companies as Chairman or Director.

He earned a Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB) from the University of Liverpool, England in 1988 and a Master of Law degree (LLM) from the London School of Economics, England, in 1989 where he specialized in International Finance and Shipping.
