BizNis Africa 2017 Newsmaker: Thabi Leoka


Thabi Leoka is an Independent Economist based in South Africa.

Previously, Leoka was an Economist at Renaissance Capital (Rencap).

Prior to joining Rencap, Thabi worked as Head of Macroeconomic Research, SA at Standard Bank.

She has also worked at Barclays (London) as an emerging markets economist, and her coverage has included Latin America, Asia and Central Europe as well as a number of African countries.

Leoka started her career in financial services at Investec Asset Management where she was a pan-Africa economist for the Africa Fund.

She then joined Investec’s EM team in London.

Leoka has a PhD and a MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics.

Leoka holds a MA in International Economics from Wits University (first-class and recipient of a Merit award), an honours International Economics and Trade and a BA from Wits University.
