Makatiani co-founded Africa Online Holdings and served as its Chief Executive Officer.

Makatiani served as Managing Partner of Gallium Partners Investments and Non-Executive Chairman of MCI/UUNET Africa.
Makatiani serves as the Chairman of Jambo Jet.

Makatiani has been a Director of Kenya Airways since August 2005.

Makatiani served as a Non-executive Director of Barclays Bank of Kenya since June 2002.

Makatiani served as Non-Executive Director of African Lakes Corporation until October 2002.

Makatiani has been voted among the leading top 15 Chief Executive Officers in East Africa, three years in a row, in the Annual PricewaterhouseCoopers – Nation Media Group survey of the top Chief Executive Officer’s in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.
